Everything but the Sodium

I haven’t ever been one to use salt after a dish is plated, but always cooked with it to get the flavor desired. I found a few sodium free substitutes when dad had his heart pump placed and I was determined he was going to go sodium free. He didn’t go sodium free, you know the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, but he would say he couldn’t tell it was sodium free when I cooked for him. That led me to start using more spices when cooking for dad. I did not implement the no sodium substitute at our home until my heart attack occurred and my cardiologist wanted me on 1500mg of sodium a day. I’m telling you, now, low sodium is not difficult at home once you learn a few basics to use.

This blend works on an array of dishes, from fish to vinaigrette dressings. I will even sprinkle this blend on my avocado for my toast in the morning .

Here is my go to:
Seasoned ”Salt” Blend
1/2 C sodium free salt
1TB ground black pepper
2 TB onion powder
1 TB garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
1TB dried parsley
Use an airtight container, any jar with a lid will work for this. Mix all ingredients together and store for frequent use. Keep airtight for 1 year.
Here are the two brands of No Sodium salts I use. Please remember no sodium salts will be high in potassium, if you need to watch potassium check the amounts on the brand you use. If you need to watch potassium, make this blend without the no salt, its about flavors to enhance foods. I purchase mine at Walmart.

I use this blend in many recipes, so I make plenty ahead of time.
I can't wait to hear what spices you're using to season in place of sodium. Make sure to comment below so we can all learn.
